Sannayu, a University of Houston graduate, was born in Houston, but spent many of her formative years in Detroit, Michigan. Sannayu was surrounded by a diverse range of music from R & B and blues stylists like Bobby Bland, BB King and Natalie Cole.  By the time Sannayu was a teenager, she was exposed to all of the Motown greats like Diana Ross, Michael Jackson and Smokey Robinson.  Later, Eryka Badu, Sade, Lauryn Hill and Jill Scott influenced Sannayu.

Sannayu has performed for 10 years in the local church choir. She has held a major acting and singing role in the ritual Drama “Lest We Forget,” a local play that ran in Houston for 4 consecutive seasons from 1997-2000. Between 2002-2005, Sannayu was the lead female vocalist for the R&B bands “Something Unique” and “Spot Light,” which played in the Houston and surrounding areas. She has recorded 3 radio hooks including a jingle for the Carmen Watkins morning show on Magic 102.   Sannayu was also the lead female vocalist for the R&B Band, “Grady Gaines & the Texas Upsetters,” which currently tours across the state of Texas.
